Photo Guidelines

Thanks for your interest in the Victoria Clipper, Seattle and Victoria photo contest. Before you submit, we'd like to tell you a bit about what we're looking for.

Overview

• The image should reflect either city – Seattle or Victoria or the Victoria Clipper Vessels.
• The image should draw you in and capture the essence of either city or the experience of the trip on the Clipper boats.

All images that we consider must meet a number of requirements, so keep this in mind as you're looking for photos to submit.

Subject matter

We’re looking for amazing shots of Seattle, Victoria, and the Clipper, but we do have the following limits on subject matter:

• No recognizable people
• No 3rd party trademarks or logos (such as distinctive packaging or building exteriors / interiors) owned by others
• No objectionable content, such as alcohol, smoking, guns, violence, or nudity
• No content that is defamatory to any group or individual and/or violates any law

Technical Requirements (File type, size, etc.)

The raw image files that you submit need to meet the following requirements:

Format

JPEG only

Dimensions

Minimum of 970px width and 528px height.

Higher resolution is better. Note that we prefer to have the image submitted in its original size and aspect ratio, which will allow us the most flexibility when sizing and cropping. We do reserve the right to crop, modify, and edit images at our discretion.

Orientation/Color

Horizontal or vertical, color photos preferred (either RGB or CMYK)

Resolution

The resolution of your photo must be at least 1MB but not exceed 9MB.

Photo Naming Conventions

The name of your photo should not contain any spaces between characters (example: Pikes Place.jpg) or special characters (such as %, #, or &) and should not exceed fifteen characters in length. You can include an underscore (example: Pikes_Place.jpg) between characters if needed.

Markup

No watermark, signature or photographer name can be included in the image file. The photographer credit will be added to the page separately.

Quick list of reasons we may not accept your picture

• If it's a digital composition or other obvious computer manipulation (we don't use this type of imagery)
• If the resolution is not sufficient (image would be grainy)
• If there is a watermark, signature or photographer name burned in the image (we add the photographer credit separately for the winner)
• If the image doesn't meet the technical and subject matter requirements outlined above

Victoria Clipper, Seattle and Victoria Photo Contest Rules

Contest Overview

The Victoria Clipper, Seattle and Victoria Photo Contest offers people the chance to win a trip on the Victoria Clipper by entering their photos. This is a skill based contest. The winning photo will be selected by an internal editorial team from photos that are in compliance with the Contest Rules set forth herein.

Contest Schedule

 Participation

The Clipper Seattle to Victoria Photo Contest is open to everyone age 14 years or older at the time of entry (if you are 14 years of age or older, but considered a minor in your place of residence, you should ask your parent’s or legal guardian’s permission prior to submitting an entry into the contest), unless you are involved in the administration and/or execution of the contest or currently a Clipper Vacation employee. You may participate in the contest by submitting photos.

Photo Submission Criteria

All photos must be consistent with the city theme and in compliance with the Contest Rules. Clipper Vacations reserves the right to remove photos at any time that are not in compliance with the Contest Rules.

Judging Process

After submission, the photos will be reviewed and voted on by an internal editorial team. The team will select one winner for the following categories: 1. Grand Prize Photo 2. Best Seattle Photo 3. Best Victoria Photo 4. Best Victoria Clipper Photo. The Grand Prize Photo is considered the best photo to meet all the criteria listed above. The winning photos will be featured on www.ClipperVacations.com on Tuesday, March 16. The winning photographers will be given credit for their photos.

Prizes

The winning photographers will be contacted by Clipper Vacations on Monday, March 15. The Grand Prize Winner will receive two free round trip tickets on the Victoria Clipper plus two nights’ accommodation, champagne breakfast aboard the Victoria Clipper, luggage handling from the hotel and a Victoria Clipper Goodie Bag. The winners of Best Seattle photo, Best Victoria photo, and Best Victoria Clipper photo will receive two free round trip tickets on the Victoria Clipper plus a Victoria Clipper Goodie Bag. All prizes are redeemable anytime for one year.

Image Ownership

All digital images must be original work. Participants retain ownership rights to their photos. You must have taken the photograph yourself, and submitted photos cannot violate the privacy or intellectual property rights of any person or entity. This shall include, but not be limited to, all third party copyrighted materials.

By submitting your photograph you grant Clipper Navigation and its affiliates an unlimited, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free, perpetual, nonexclusive right and license to use, reproduce, publish, modify, perform and display the image on the www.clippervacations.com website and in any marketing or advertising of any kind related thereto, in any medium now known or later developed.

Clipper Navigation will not pay you any compensation for your photograph or any use we may make of it. Clipper Navigation is not obligated to use your photograph and we may not notify you if we do not use it. By submitting your photograph you agree and represent to Clipper Navigation that you are the photographer and the sole copyright owner of the photograph.
